Rangers are keen on making a move for Arsenal youngster Jon Toral in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Record.

The report claims the Scottish side have made the 21-year-old their top priority this winter with manager Mark Warburton having flown to Spain for negotiations.

Toral is currently on loan with Liga side Granada who have managed just nine points from 16 games so far this season and are just two points off the bottom of the table going into the winter break.

The Record report that Toral could end his loan spell with Granda in favour of a short-term deal at Ibrox having made just five starts for the Spanish side so far this season.

Toral has also worked with Warburton previously during their time together at Brentford, the midfielder enjoyed a decent spell on loan at Griffin Park before heading to Birmingham City last season.

The Blues are also believed to be interested in taking Toral back after last season where he won the Supporters’ Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and the Goal of the Season award.

Rangers, however, are believed to have enlisted the help of Mikel Arteta in an attempt to convince Toral to move to Scotland.

Arteta, who spent two years at Ibrox winning the title and a League Cup, has reportedly advised Toral that Rangers are a strong option who could provide him with a fresh start.

Toral was expected to make an impact this season before heading out to Granada, and with that move evidently having failed to work out, a new club could be the best option for the rest of the campaign.
