Arsenal are finally closing in on a deal to sign a potent forward before the close of the transfer window, as several media outlets, including the BBC have confirmed the move.
As per Spanish source Marca, Arsenal could complete the transfer of Deportivo la Coruna striker Lucas Perez by Friday.
Everton were also said to be interested in signing Perez but, Arsenal seem to have gazumped the Merseyside outfit in the race to sign the La Liga forward. BBC’s David Ornstein and Matt Law of the Telegraph have both taken to social media to confirm the transfer.
Ornstein [@bbcsport_david] tweeted: “Arsenal interested in signing Deportivo La Coruna CF Lucas Perez. Not done deal but #AFC in contention – 27yo, 17 gls in 37 apps last season.”
“Arsenal are in Spain now finalising the Lucas Perez transfer – huge blow to Everton who thought they had him #afc #efc”, Law [@Matt_Law_DT] posted on Twitter.
Perez’s signing means Arsenal have another brilliant striker, who can displace Olivier Giroud from his starting position in the team. The Deportivo striker bagged an impressive 17 goals in 36 La Liga games last season.
