Jamie Vardy did Arsenal a huge favour
It was arguably the transfer story of the summer.
Will he or won’t he? Ultimately Jamie Vardy plumped for the latter and decided to bat away Arsenal’s advances and stay with Leicester.
At the time it would have been a blow to Arsene Wenger – but right now it looks like Vardy did Wenger and the Gunners a huge favour.
It meant that Lucas Perez was brought in instead and so far, even though he has not featured that much, the Spaniard looks a far better player than the Leicester man.
While Vardy struggles to get anywhere near the levels he set last season, Perez is quietly going about becoming a very important player for Arsenal.
Every time he plays he makes an impact. His technique, his awareness, his ability to bring others into play is hugely impressive.
Once again he had a big part to play as Arsenal put Saints to the sword, setting up Welbeck’s opener and then having a major hand in Walcott’s first goal of the evening.
It was another impressive night for the summer signing from Deportivo.
