With Arsenal losing their key targets to other clubs, one is tempted to believe Arsenal is no long attractive to players but if quotes doing the round in the Spaniard media today are true, then we are still very much attractive to players.
Real Madrid recently completed the signing of a young Paraguayan attacker who has been depicted as the ‘new Kun Aguero’.
18-year-old forward Sergio Diaz has been talked about as a standout among the most promising youngsters in world football and, having been linked with a move to a top European club for as far back as two years, Diaz has finally completed a move to Real Madrid. One would have thought this was his dream move.
But, the player having being chased by Roma last summer was featured in RGS radio in the wake of signing a contract with the Italian club, he revealed that Arsenal was his dream club:
“My dream is to play for Arsenal, which I’ve had since I was a child,” he told Paraguay’s RGS Radio.
“My future? I am told my transfer to Roma is all but done.”
“At the moment it is still very quiet; I do not know when I will leave for Italy but in essence my move to Roma has been confirmed.”
As it happened, the arrangement wasn’t exactly yet done and tidied and, as indicated by Diaz’s agent, Roma shockingly cut all contact when all that was left to complete the transfer was for the contracts to be signed.
Addressing Calciomercato, Patrick Jani Delmas had the following to say about how the deal fell apart;
“Roma took decisive steps to sign Diaz, but I haven’t been in touch with the club for a long time. Last summer the deal was almost done, but they then cut off all contact.
I can confirm that agreements between the two clubs, as well as between us and Roma, had been drafted. We just had to put pen to paper.”
Although, Roma’s purposes for cutting contact with Diaz reps remains unknown, one wouldn’t be amazed if the club were offended by Diaz’s open declaration that he would incline toward a move to Arsenal when he was on the edge of finishing a transfer to the Italian giants.
